Could you introduce yourself?

I am Mehtap Demirci. I was born in Erzurum, İspir in 1978. I am a female entrepreneur with two girls, one 5 and the other 8 years old. Previously, I worked in restaurant management and private companies. Finally, after working as a taster at Coca-Cola, my partner Gürsel Işık entered the egg production business.

Could you tell us about the work you do?

We have been doing natural egg business for about 10 years. For 8 years, we have established a production farm here with the land we bought in Körfez Dikenli Village.

How did you start this business, did you ever dream of being a producer?

Actually, this process started with my inability to find natural eggs to feed my daughters. The process, which started with just having enough natural eggs for my daughters for a day, continued with our family, friends, and finally Mr. Gürsel, said "Let's start production."

What are the risks of your business?

Our business has many risks, but the most dangerous are diseases. The disease transmitted to a single animal can cause all chickens to perish. Apart from that, even migratory birds, temperature and wind can affect chickens. For this reason, a veterinarian is definitely on duty in our facility. The District Agriculture Directorate gives us great support.

Are you having trouble finding a market?

We are actively in the market on Gebze and the Asian side of Istanbul. However, as our capacity increases, our market search increases in parallel.

Can you tell about the support of the chamber of commerce to you in this process?

We found a place for ourselves in the Körfez market thanks to the local trade development initiative organized by the Körfez Chamber of Commerce and the District Agriculture Directorate, and the hosting of the producers in the Körfez at the committee meetings and the support for the producers to find a market starting from their own fields. As the producer of this district, we have achieved significant gains in this process initiated by the Körfez Chamber of Commerce. In this sense, we would like to express our gratitude to our committee members, especially our President of the Chamber of Commerce, Recep Öztürk, and our committee members, who have made a name for themselves in our district.

Can you tell us about the features that distinguish your eggs from other eggs?

We think that we are an exemplary farm with our geographical conditions and equipment, mechanisms and documents that control our eggs. We think that we are assertive in this field with the eggs that our chickens lay by walking around on our cultivated land, eating worms and most importantly by contacting the sun, without losing their natural environment. We think that our most important feature is that we do this business without separating our conscience from trade.

How many employees do you have in your facility?

Two families stay in our facility and support us in every scope of production.

How many chickens did you have when you started production and how many chickens do you have now?

We started with 40 chickens and now we have 10.000 chickens.

What is your daily production capacity?

We obtain an average of 5000 eggs per day.

How many years have you been a member of the Körfez Chamber of Commerce?

We have been a member of the Körfez Chamber of Commerce since January 2019.
